Beginning in 2017, MGA has recognized one individual as the Michigan Guardian of the Year.   Awarded at the annual Spring Conference it honors an individual who exemplifies excellence in guardianship. In celebrating the Guardian of the Year, MGA highlights superb accomplishments in the practice of guardianship, guardianship education, and/or advocacy for best practices in guardianship. The program is designed to recognize the Guardian who has served not only their profession, but also their communities.

  • Any individual who is a current member of the MGA may nominate a guardian.
  • All nomination forms must be submitted using the official nomination form. Faxed or mailed nomination forms will be accepted as long as they are received by the due date.

CRITERIA

The nominee demonstrates some or all of the following qualities:

Guardian Character

  • High principles of integrity, adherence to the MGA Code of Ethics, and furtherance of the principles of good guardianship practice among other guardians, wards, clients, attorneys, the courts and the general public.
  • The nominee has shown a high level of commitment and service to furthering the profession. The awardee should significantly contribute to the advancement of guardianship issues and exemplify exceptional leadership in furthering consistent quality advocacy for Michigan’s legally incapacitated individuals.
  • The nominee demonstrates how to deal with challenging situations.

Civic Activity

  • Civic Activity – The nominee is a contributor to the success of their local community and/or society. Local, state, and national level participation in civic and service clubs, charitable activities, political commissions, or fraternal or religious groups.

Business Accomplishments

  • The nominee has demonstrated work/profession related achievements. Public recognition of business conduct, service to clients, imaginative and creative programs, presentations, publications, etc.

State Association Activity

  • State offices held and committee work, attendance and participation in state conferences, directors meetings, and educational conferences.

National Association Activity

  • National offices and committee work, membership, and designations. Attendance at national conferences and director meetings.
