DISTRICT
State Rep. Edward J. “Ned” Canfield was first elected to serve the 84th District in November 2014. The district covers Huron and Tuscola counties.

COMMITTEES
Canfield is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. He is vice chair of the Military and Veterans Affairs appropriations subcommittee. He also serves on appropriations subcommittees for Medicaid, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Education.
Dr. Canfield also serves as a member or the Joint Select Committee on the Flint Water Public Health Emergency and the House Bipartisan Mental Health Task Force.

EDUCATION
Dr. Canfield has earned an associate degree in Environmental Health Technology from Merritt College, Oakland, CA, a bachelor’s of science in Biological Sciences from Lake Superior State College and a doctorate of Osteopathy from Michigan State University-College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a Board Certified Osteopathic Family Physician.

PROFESSIONAL
Dr. Canfield most recently practiced at the Caro Medical Clinic in Caro. Previously, he ran the Canfield Family Practice with his wife, Cheryl. He also served as a board member for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan

PUBLIC OFFICES AND AFFILIATIONS
Ned has been involved in many community organizations; he is a former president and current member of Sebewaing Rotary Club as well as the Michigan Osteopathic Association and Eastern Michigan Osteopathic Association Ned also is a board member of the Michigan Center for Rural Health, and a former board member of the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians. Ned is also a member of the charitable rock band, Second Time Around. The Canfields attend Son’s Life Missionary Church in Sebewaing.

PERSONAL
Canfield served five years in the United States Navy, and has been married to his wife Cheryl since 1984. They have four children and two grandchildren.
